SEAT Ibiza Key Fob Battery Replacement
If your SEAT Ibiza key fob range is reducing or it no longer operates the central locking, chances are that the battery requires replacement. The battery is located to the rear of the vehicle key, under a cover as described below.
Other issues that affect key operation can be radio signal interference that work in the same range and that are close to the vehicle. Examples can include radio transmitters and your mobile phone. Bad weather can also influence the effectiveness of your remote key. Before changing your SEAT Ibiza key battery, take not that:
- Damage may occur to the remote key if the battery is not changed correctly.
- Incorrect or unsuitable batteries may cause damage to the remote key. Always replace the battery with the same specification, size and voltage. In this instance, the battery is a CR2025.
- To avoid damage, ensure that the battery is fitted in the dame direction (polarity) as the battery that’s removed.
Changing the SEAT Ibiza Key Fob Battery
Use these instructions to change the battery in the newer models of the SEAT Ibiza. Older models may have a different key fob.
- Fold out the key blade.
- Inside the groove where the key part flipped out from (A), using your thumb nail or a flat-head screwdriver, in the direction of the arrow (B), prise upwards the key fob battery compartment lid.
- Using a thin, flat-head screwdriver or similar tool, prise out the battery in the direction of the arrow (C).
- Insert a new CR2025 battery, ensuring that the ‘+’ polarity is facing upwards.
- Fold down the battery cover and press until it clicks in place.
Battery Disposal
Expired batteries are harmful to the environment and should be disposed of at facilities that accept batteries. Many supermarkets now offer battery recycling banks.
Synchronising the SEAT Ibiza key
If the button is frequently pressed whilst outside the range of the vehicle, or if the battery has been replaced, you may no longer be able to lock or unlock the vehicle doors without first having the key resynchronised. To resynchronise the key while the vehicle is open:
- Press the button on the remote key.
- Now lock the vehicle using the metal key shaft within one minute of doing the above. If necessary, remove the cover from the driver door lever that conceals the lock cylinder.
To resynchronise the key while the vehicle is closed:
- Press the button on the remote key.
- Now lock the vehicle using the metal key shaft within one minute of doing the above. If necessary, remove the cover from the driver door lever that conceals the lock cylinder.
