Ford Galaxy Start Stop Not Working

Ford Galaxy Start Stop Not Working

Ford Galaxy system reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by shutting down the engine when the vehicle is idling. The engine will
automatically restart when the driver presses the clutch pedal or when engine restart is required by a vehicle system, for example to
recharge the battery.

The start stop system is on by default an each ignition cycle and cannot be permanently switched off. To let you know the start stop system is engaged, the start stop indicator light will illuminate green on the dashboard when the engine shuts down. The indicator light will flash in amber indicating that you are required to select neutral or depress the clutch pedal. See Ford Galaxy dashboard warning lights.

Ford Galaxy Start Stop Not Working

There are many requirements for the Ford Galaxy to function. Though the system may appear to not be working correctly, it’s likely that on or more requirements have not been met by the system to induce engine standby. These requirements are:

  • To maintain the interior climate.
  • If the battery charge is low, the system will not shut down the engine. This usually occurs when the battery charge state is at 75 percent or lower.
  • Battery temperature is not too low or too high. This is usually if the outside temperature is below -5 °C or above 60 °C
  • The outside temperature is too low or too high. This is usually if the outside temperature is below 0 °C or above 30 °C
  • The driver’s door has been opened.
  • Low engine operating temperature where the coolant is below 60 °C
  • Low brake system vacuum. Brake system vacuum is required to multiply the drivers brake pedal effort.
  • If a road speed of 5 km/h (3 mph) has not been exceeded.
  • The driver’s seat belt has not been fastened.
  • Automatic gearbox temperature is too low or too high. Usually between 0 °C and 118 °C
  • Too many engine restarts per minute. Usually around six or more.
  • On gradients lower or higher than 9 percent.
  • The catalytic converter temperature is too high.

Changing the Car Battery

If your version of Ford Galaxy has start stop technology the battery requirement is different. The battery must be replaced by one of exactly the same specification as the original.
