Fiat Fiorino Dashboard Warning Lights
Here we look at the Fiat Fiorino van dashboard warning light for the Mk 3 model (2007 – present day). Each warning light is explained plus what action should be taken based on manufacturers recommendations. Several warning lights will come on briefly when the ignition is switched to MAR as part of a normal self-check.
Symbol | Warning Light Description and Action |
---|---|
The Fiat Fiorino brake warning light illuminates in red and comes on for the following reasons: 1. The hand brake is applied. 2. Brake fluid levels are low. What to do Ensure the hand brake is fully released. If the warning light remains on, check brake fluid levels. If brake fluid level has significantly dropped, it may indicate a leak. To top up with brake fluid, release the cap (A) and top up ensuring you do not exceed the MAX mark. Make sure no dirt gets into the reservoir else it will contaminate the system. Use Tutela Top 4 brake fluid. |

The Fiat Fiorino airbag warning light should briefly light up when the ignition is turned to MAR. If the airbag warning light does not light up with the ignition or if it comes on when driving, there is a potential failure with the restraint systems. In this situation, the airbags or seat belt pretensioners may not activate during impact. It's also possible that the restraint system may unexpectedly deploy accidentally. Check cabling and connections under the seat to ensure all is intact. Have system serviced as soon as possible. | |
The Fiat Fiorino engine overheating warning light comes on in red when coolant temperatures are too high. If the warning light comes on: 1. Stop your vehicle and stop the engine. 2. Allow engine to cool. 3. Check engine coolant vessel and that coolant level does not fall under the MIN mark. 4. If coolant level is low, add fluid. If the level is too low, slowly pour a mixture of 50% distilled water and of Paraflu Up into the engine coolant vessel (A). A 50-50 mixture of Paraflu Up and distilled water gives freeze protection down to –35°C. |

The Fiat Fiorino battery warning light comes on in red when driving means that the battery is no longer being charged and the engine may shut off after a period of time. Immediately turn off any electrical systems that are not essential and make your way to the nearest auto repair workshop. |
Anti-lock braking system (ABS) stops the wheels from locking when braking harshly or during an emergency and allows the driver to continue to steer. The Fiat Fiorino ABS warning light comes on in amber when driving meaning that the ABS system is not working. However, the normal braking system preserves its efficiency unaltered, though this will be without the additional safety of ABS. An ABS fault is often sue to a sensor or worn / broken cable or connection at the wheels. Warning If both the ABS warning light and the brake warning light it means there's a malfunction with the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) This system automatically varies the amount of brakeforce on individual wheels and by doing so increases braking ability. During harsh braking, unexpected locking of the rear wheels may occur. Have system checked immediately. |
|
The ESP (Electronic Stability Program) and Traction control (Plus) system offer increased stability when cornering and accelerating. The Fiat Fiorino ESP warning light comes on for the following reasons: • If the ESP warning light does not go off or stays on when driving together with the button led ASR OFF, it means the ESP system has malfunctioned. This is sometimes related to an ABS sensor due to sharing the same components. • If the ESP warning light flashes, it means the ESP system is active and helping to stabilise the vehicle. |

The Fiat Fiorino low oil pressure warning light comes on in red for the following reasons: Low engine oil pressure This means that oil pressure is low and that oil circulation in the engine is reduced. Lubrication may not operate correctly causing significant damage. Stop as soon as possible, switch off the engine and contact a Fiat workshop. Exhausted Oil This is for Multijet Fiat Fiorino versions with DPF. The warning light flashes in red. After the first warning, at each engine start-up, the warning light continues to flash for about 60 seconds and then every 2 hours until the oil is changed. Have oil changed as soon as possible. |
|
This warning light comes on in red and means that the doors or tailgate on the Fiat Fiorino are not properly shut. | |
The Fiat Fiorino minimum engine oil level warning light comes on in red meaning engine oil levels have dropped below the minimum safe limits. Add engine oil as soon as possible. Adding engine oil 1. Stop the engine on level ground and add engine oil in increments. 2. Use the dipstick (A) and first clean it before placing it back to the engine. 3. Remove it again once adding a small quantity of oil into the engine (B). 4. Keep adding oil and keep checking the dipstick until the oil level reaches the MAX mark on the dipstick. 5. Ensure you do not overfill with oil else this may cause damage. |
The Fiat Fiorino check engine warning light comes on in amber and for the following reasons: Multijet and petrol versions With a steady check engine light, this is a possible injection system / EOBD engine control system failure malfunction, a fault in the supply/ignition system has occurred which could cause high exhaust emissions, possible lack of performance, poor handling and high fuel consumption levels. The vehicle can still be driven at moderate speeds. Flashing light A flashing check engine light means possible engine misfire and can result in catalyst damage. Slow the engine speed down until the light stops flashing. If the light flashes again, have it checked immediately. Diagnosis Faults are stored in the system and will require diagnostic equipment to be read. |
|
The Fiat Fiorino diesel particulate filter warning light comes on when the filter requires driver assistance to regenerate. This is often an automatic process, but driver intervention is occasionally required. The warning light comes on in amber when the filter is clogged with diesel soot and driving conditions have not allowed the process to complete automatically. To assist with cleaning the filter: 1. Keep driving the vehicle. 2. Ideally on a road that does not require stopping or slowing. 3. Keep the engine speed reasonably high. 4. The warning light will go out when the cleaning process is complete. |
|
When switching the ignition to MAR, the glow plugs warning light comes on in amber and goes out when the glow plugs have heated up. Start the engine when the glow plugs go out. In cold ambient temperatures, the warning light will remain on longer. Flashing glow plugs light The warning light flashes in the event of a failure in the glow plug heating system. |
|
This warning light turns on in amber when there's the presence of water in the diesel filter. This can cause severe damage to the injection system and irregular engine operation. The water diesel should be bled as soon as possible. If the warning light comes on after refueling, water may have been introduced into the fuel tank. In this case, stop the engine immediately and contact a Fiat workshop. |
The car and lock warning light is the Fiat Fiorino vehicle protection system failure warning light. It illuminates in amber and indicates an alarm failure or theft attempt. Fiat Code System The Fiat Code system is an engine inhibiting system that helps to protect against theft each time the key is removed from the ignition. Each time the engine is started (ignition switched to MAR) a recognition code is sent to the engine control unit (ECU) to deactivate the engine inhibiter. Each key has its own unique code that must be stored in the vehicle ECU. The warning light illuminates if the code is not recognised. In this instance, switch the key to STOP and then back to MAR to try again. If this fails, try another key. This can also happen due to an insufficiently charged or flat battery. Use an auxiliary battery or jump leads. Fiat Code system fault If warning light comes on along with it indicates a Fiat Code system failure. Immobiliser light flashing If while driving, the immobiliser light flashes it means the vehicle is not protected by the engine inhibiter. Immobiliser light on If while driving the immobiliser light comes on (non-flashing) it means the system is conducting a self-test. When you stop, switch the ignition to STOP, then MAR and if the light does not come on, no fault has been detected. If the warning light stays on, try the procedure again but leave the key in the STOP position for over 30 seconds. |
|
This warning light comes on in amber meaning an external lights failure. The Fiat Fiorino external lights failure warning light comes on due to the failure of: • side/taillights. • stop lights. • rear fog lights. • direction indicators. • plate lights. The warning light comes on due to a blown bulb or fuse (or both) or a fault in an electrical connection. On certain versions of the Fiorino, the generic warning triangle illuminates instead. |
|
The Fiat Fiorino amber / yellow warning triangle with exclamation mark is a generic warning light. If comes on for the following reasons: Engine oil pressure sensor The warning triangle illuminates when a fault has been detected with the engine oil pressure sensor. External lights failure Warning triangle illuminates due to external lights failure (for versions of the Fiorino that do not have a dedicated lamp). Fuel cut-off switch The warning triangle comes on when the inertial fuel cut-off switch is triggered. To reset the Fiat Fiorino fuel cut-off switch: • turn the ignition key to MAR; • switch on the right-hand indicator; • switch off the right-hand indicator; • switch on the left-hand indicator; • switch off the left-hand indicator; • switch on the right-hand indicator; • switch off the right-hand indicator; • switch on the left-hand indicator; • switch off the left-hand indicator; • turn the ignition key to STOP. Parking sensors If your version of Fiorino is equipped with parking sensors but doesn't have a dedicated warning light, the generic triangle illuminate when a fault is detected. |
|
The Fiat Fiorino brake pads warning light comes on in amber when the front brake pads are excessively worn and require replacing. | |
The Fiat Fiorino parking sensors warning light comes on in amber when a fault has been detected. Check to ensure the parking sensors are clean from dirt or obscured in any way. |
