Citroën Dispatch Stop Start Not Working
In an attempt to reduce fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, the Citroën Dispatch’s (also known as the Citroën Jumpy) stop start system temporarily puts the engine into standby (stop mode) when stationary in traffic and automatically restarts when moving off.
Though simple in principle, the Citroën Dispatch stop start system doesn’t always work as intended, particularly for engine standby. This is due to various vehicle and environmental conditions that have to be passed in order for the system to operate as expected.
Initiating Engine Standby
Depedning on your version of the Citroën Dispatch / Jumpy, the ECO light or the stop start light illuminates on the dashboard indicating the engine has gone into standby (stop mode).
Manual Gearbox
For versions of the Citroën Dispatch with a manual gearbox, to initiate engine standby, your speed must be below 12 mph (20 km/h) or stationary (depending on engine). Stop mode is induced automatically when the gear lever is placed into neutral and the clutch pedal is released.
Start Mode – Start mode is initiated by depressing the clutch.
Automatic Gearbox
For versions of the Citroën Dispatch with a automatic gearbox, to initiate engine standby, press the brake pedal and place the gear selector lever into position ‘N’.
Start Mode – Start mode is initiated by releasing the foot brake.
Electronic Gearbox
For versions of the Citroën Dispatch with a electronic gearbox, to initiate engine standby, your speed must be below 5 mph (8 km/h). Stop mode is induced automatically when the brake pedal is pressed or the gear selector lever is placed into position ‘N’.
Start Mode – Start mode is initiated by releasing the foot brake.
Citroën Dispatch Stop Start Not Working
If your Citroën Dispatch / Jumpy engine stop start system is not working due to a fault the ECO light or the stop start light constantly flash – this is a malfunction of the stop start system. If one of the warning lights temporarily flashes, it indicates that the system is temporarily unavailable. The stop start system is not working and is temporarily unavailable due to the following conditions:
- Battery charge being too low and below the acceptable threshold is the most common reason for stop start not working. Though the threshold varies, batteries with a charge of 75% or less will usually have the stop start system inhibited.
- Battery internal temperature is too high or too low.
- Engine coolant temperatures either too low or too high will inhibit stop start. Again it varies a little, but coolant temperatures below 10°C or above 100°C may prevent automatic engine stop start from working.
- Vacuum brake booster is a system that multiplies the force when applying the foot brake. If the pressure is too low, stop start will be inhibited for safety reasons.
- External / ambient temperatures can prevent the stop start system from working. Temperatures approximately below 5°C or above 35°C may inhibit the system.
- The vehicle is on a steep ascending or descending slope. This is usually around +9 percent or -9 percent.
- The driver’s door is open.
- A sliding door is open.
- The driver’s seat belt is not fastened.
- Since the last manual engine start by the driver, the vehicle has not yet exceeded a speed of 6 mph (10 km/h).
- The electric parking brake is being applied or is currently being applied.
- The demisting function is active.
- Variation between the temperature of the passenger compartment compared to the settings on the climate control system is too high or too low.
- Reverse gear is selected.
Turning Off Stop Start
You can turn off (or back on) your Citroën Dispatch / Jumpy engine stop start system by either pressing the auto-stop button or by using the touch screen controls.
- Enter the Driving Menu.
- Select Stop & Start system.
- Active or deactivate.
The automatic engine stop start system is activated automatically by default upon each engine start.
