Citroën C5 Aircross Dashboard Warning Lights

Certain red or orange warning lights come on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on. This is normal as it’s usually a system check and these warning lights should go off as soon after the engine is started.

When the engine is running or the vehicle is being driven, the constant illumination of a red or orange warning light indicates a fault that needs further investigation. It’s advised that you stop as soon as safely possible and switch off the ignition to investigate. Warning lights may be illuminated along with an audible signal and message.

Stop Warning Light

This red triangle containing an exclamation mark is the Citroën C5 Aircross stop warning light. The symbol remains lit along with another warning light, an audible alert and message. The stop warning light indicates a serious fault with the engine, braking system, power steering, automatic gearbox or a major electrical fault. Stop as soon as safely possible, switch off the engine and contact a Citroën workshop.

Oil Pressure Warning Light

This red symbol remaining lit indicates the Citroën C5 Aircross has low engine oil pressure and has a fault with the lubrication system. The low oil pressure light can illuminate when engine oil levels are very low. Check oil level and top up if required. Only continue driving if the light goes off. If it remains lit, switch off the engine and contact a Citroën workshop. Continued driving will cause severe engine damage.

High Temperature Warning Light

This red symbol remaining lit indicates the Citroën C5 Aircross has reached the maximum engine coolant temperature and that the engine is at risk of overheating. Stop the vehicle, switch off the engine and allow several minutes for the engine cooling system to cool down. When cool, top up with coolant. If the problem persists, it may indicate a leak in the system.

Battery Warning Light

This red battery symbol remaining lit indicates the Citroën C5 Aircross has an electrical fault with the battery charging system. Continued driving may see the engine stall. Make your way immediately to the closest vehicle workshop for assistance. The battery charging circuit has a fault, for example:

• dirty or loose battery terminals
• slack or cut alternator belt
• Failed alternator
• Wiring issue

Electric Parking Brake Warning Light

This electric parking brake should illuminate steady when the electric parking brake is applied. This means the parking brake is engaged and working correctly. If the electric parking brake warning light flashes, it means there’s a fault with the electric parking brake application or release mechanism. To prevent vehicle roll, park on level ground and with a manual gearbox, engage a gear. With an automatic gearbox, place the gear selector in mode P.

If the automatic parking brake function either for application or release of the parking brake is deactivated, the parking brake ‘Auto Off’ warning light will illuminate. The Auto Off warning light along with the spanner fault symbol indicates a fault and only manual operation of the parking brake is available.

If the electronic parking has a fault, the exclamation symbol illuminates   meaning the electronic parking brake is no longer operational. It may also illuminate with the spanner fault symbol meaning you can no longer immobilise the vehicle with the engine running. If manual application and release are not working, the electric parking brake control lever is faulty.

Brake Warning Light

This red Citroën C5 Aircross brake warning symbol remaining constantly lit means the brake fluid level has fallen significantly. Top up with brake fluid as soon as possible. If the problem persists, there may be a leak in the brake system. If topping up, clean the cap before replacing it. Use only DOT4 brake fluid from a sealed canister. Low brake fluid can be an indication of heavy brake pad wear.

ABS Warning Light

ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) is an additional brake safety system that helps to maintain the Citroën C5 Aircross’s steering while under harsh braking conditions. Engine Warning Light

The Citroën C5 Aircross engine warning light remaining lit is triggered by the engine self-diagnostic system. The warning symbol, often referred to as the ‘check engine warning light’ may remain lit or flash. If it remains lit, it means there’s an emission control system fault. If it flashes, there’s a fault with the engine management system. The engine warning light is generic, meaning that there are many potential faults associated with the engine and emissions system.

If the engine warning light remains lit, often restarting the engine clears the problem temporarily. You can continue driving but have the fault diagnosed as soon as possible. If the engine light flashes, there’s a risk of catalytic converter damage due to engine misfire. Reduce speed and avoid high acceleration. Collision Alert Warning Light

The Citroën C5 Aircross Collision Risk Alert/Active Safety Brake system brakes the vehicle briefly so as to reduce the speed of frontal collision with the vehicle ahead. If the light flashes, it means the system is operating. If the light remains lit, it means there’s a fault. Ensure the front camera mounted inside the windscreen has a clear view and also the radar mounted on the vehicle front grille is clear and clean.

Lane Departure Warning Light

The Citroën C5 Aircross Collision Active Lane Departure Warning System symbol flashes to warn the driver when they are about to cross a broken lane marking without operating the direction indicators. If the warning light remains on, it means the system has been automatically deactivated or placed on standby. If the warning light remains lit along with the spanner fault symbol it means the system has a fault. • The adaptive cruise control must be active.

• A spare wheel of the “space-saver” type must not be in use.
• The direction indicators must not be activated.
• The view of the front mounted camera inside the windscreen must have a clear view.

DSC Warning Light

The Citroën C5 Aircross Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and Anti-slip regulation (ASR) help to maintain the vehicle’s traction and reduce understeer or oversteer while cornering. If the light is flashing, it means the DSC/ASR adjustment is activated if there is a loss of grip or trajectory. If the light remains on, it means there’s a fault. A fault is often associated with a malfunctioning wheel speed sensors.

If the DSC warning light stays illuminated along with the spanner fault symbol and the message ‘Parking brake fault’, it means the emergency braking system does not have full power. If automatic release is not available, use manual release. To do this: press the brake pedal and while maintaining pressure on the brake pedal, briefly push the control lever.

If the DSC warning light, the spanner fault symbol and the Auto Off’ warning light all come on, it means there’s a fault with the Hill Start Assist system.

Tyre Pressure Warning Light

The Citroën C5 Aircross tyre pressure warning light remains lit and accompanying audible alert with message meaning that one or more tyre pressures is low. If the tyre pressure light flashes along with the spanner fault symbol it means there’s a problem with the system. The Citroën C5 Aircross uses wheels speed sensors to calculate tyre pressures. If the tyre pressure system is faulty, it may be a malfunctioning wheels speed sensor.

Tyre Pressure Reset

To reset the Citroën C5 Aircross tyre pressure system, first make sure that the pressures of the four tyres are correct for the conditions of use of the vehicle and conform to the values written on the tyre pressure label – located inside the driver’s door. To reset the tyre pressure system:

1. Reset the system via the Driving/Vehicle menu of the touch screen.
2. Ensure the vehicle is stationary.
3. In the Driving/Vehicle menu, select the ‘Driving functions‘ tab.
4. Then select the ‘Under-inflation initialisation‘ function.
5. Select ‘Yes‘ to confirm.

The reinitialisation is confirmed by the display of a message and an audible signal.

Airbag Warning Light

The Citroën C5 Aircross airbag warning light should go off soon after the engine has started. If it remains lit, there’s a malfunction with the airbag and seat belt pretensioner system. This is usually a sensor issue, either with the airbag or set occupancy. Occasionally a cable or connection can become dislodged under the front seats.

Diesel Filter Warning Light

For diesel versions of the Citroën C5 Aircross, this diesel filter contains water warning light means the filter is full and requires emptying. The filter separate water from the diesel and prevents it from entering the fuel tank. If the filter is not emptied, water may enter the engine and cause damage.

Diesel Particulate Filter Warning Light

For diesel versions of the Citroën C5 Aircross, this diesel particulate filter (DPF) warning light comes on indicating that the filter is full and requires regeneration. As soon as the traffic conditions permit, regenerate the filter by driving at a speed of at least 37 mph (60 km/h) until the warning lamp goes off.

Power Steering Warning Light

This warning light means there’s a problem with the power steering. You may notice that the steering is harder to operate, particularly at slower speeds. This may be to do with the power steering motor overheating which can occur due to a driver steering constantly from right to left lock, or by leaving it on full lock for extended periods of time while the engine is running. If the warning light remains on, seek assistance from a qualified workshop.

Start Stop Symbol

This green symbol illuminate due to the Citroën C5 Aircross start stop system putting the vehicle into STOP mode. The automatic engine start stop system initiates each time the engine starts and has to be manually switched off. When the start stop system is manually switched off the ‘OFF’ symbol will illuminate.
