Citroën C3 Aircross Dashboard Warning Lights
The Citroën C3 Aircross mini SUV has been manufactured since 2017. If you are experiencing a dashboard warning light on your vehicle, the symbol is likely listed below. These are the Citroën C3 Aircross dashboard warning lights, with symbol explanation and what action to take based on Citroën’s recommendation. Many of the Aircross warning lights come on with ignition and should shortly go out as part of a self-test.
Service Warning Spanner Light
The Citroën C3 Aircross amber service warning spanner light is not an indication of vehicle maintenance requirements. The spanner warning light indicates a fault where there is no other specific warning lights associated. This warning light may also illuminate along with other warning lights. If the spanner warning light illuminates temporarily, it means a minor fault has been found of which a message will be displayed on the dashboard. If the spanner warning light remains lit constantly , it indicates a major fault. In this instance, have the vehicle checked immediately by a Citroën workshop.
STOP Warning Light
The Citroën C3 Aircross red STOP warning light is associated with another warning lights, accompanied by the display of a message and an audible signal. The STOP warning light means there’s a serious fault with the engine, braking system,
power steering or a major electrical fault has been detected. If the STOP warning light comes on, you must stop the vehicle as soon as possible and contact a Citroën workshop.
Brake Warning Light
The Citroën C3 Aircross brake warning light comes on for the following reasons:
- The parking brake is applied or not properly released.
- The brake fluid level in the braking circuit has dropped significantly. Stop as soon as possible and top up with fluid that complies with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- A fault has occurred in the brake system. Do not continue driving and contact a Citroën workshop.
ABS Warning Light
ABS stands for ‘Anti-lock Braking System’ and if the Citroën C3 Aircross ABS warning light comes on it means the anti-lock braking system has a fault. The vehicle retains conventional braking. Drive carefully at moderate speed and seek the assistance of a qualified workshop as soon as possible. The most frequent cause of an ABS fault is often due to wheel speed sensors. There’s a sensor locate on each wheel.
Brake + ABS Warning Light
The illumination of the brake and ABS warning light means the electronic brake force distribution (EBFD) system is faulty. EBFD is a braking safety system that adjusts brake pressure by varying amounts on a per-wheel basis. This helps to increase braking performance. Due to EBFD failure, braking may become unpredictable. It’s advised that you stop the vehicle and contact a Citroën workshop.
Battery Warning Light
The Citroën C3 Aircross battery warning light comes on because the alternator is no longer charging the battery. Possible reasons include dirty battery terminals, slack or cut alternator belt, old battery or failing alternator. Once the battery charge is exhausted, the engine may stop. Make your way immediately to a vehicle repair workshop.
Oil Pressure Warning Light
This is the Citroën C3 Aircross low oil pressure warning light and not to be confused with the low oil level light. Low oil pressure can result in disruption to the engine lubrication system causing significant damage. Stop your vehicle as soon as possible and check oil level. Top up with oil if required. Only continue your journey if the oil pressure light goes out. If it remains on, even after adding oil keep the engine switched off and contact a Citroën workshop.
Engine Coolant Temperature Warning Light
This is the Citroën C3 Aircross engine coolant temperature warning light. If the red LED illuminates, pull off the road and switch off the engine. Wait several minutes for the coolant to cool down before checking fluid levels. Top up if required. Check for leaks under the vehicle engine bay. If the warning light remains on, it’s advised to not continue driving and to contact a qualified workshop.
Engine Self-Diagnostics + STOP Warning Light
The red check engine warning light containing an exclamation mark is the engine self-diagnostics system. The illumination of the red engine self-diagnostics system warning light and the STOP warning light together indicates a major engine fault. Stop the vehicle as soon as possible, switch off the engine and contact a Citroën workshop.
Engine Self-Diagnostics + Service Warning Spanner Light
The amber check engine warning light containing an exclamation mark is the engine self-diagnostics system. The illumination of the amber engine self-diagnostics system warning light and the service warning spanner light together indicates a minor engine fault. You can continue driving but have vehicle checked as soon as possible.
Check Engine Warning Light
The Citroën C3 Aircross check engine warning light indicates that the engine management system has found a fault. This is typically an emissions control related issue. The only way to locate the fault is to use diagnostic equipment which can read stored fault codes. If the check engine warning light is fixed, you can continue driving but have vehicle checked as soon as possible. If the check engine warning light is flashing, it indicates an engine misfire which can damage the catalytic converter. Immediately reduce speed and avoid high engine loads. Have vehicle checked as soon as possible.
Collision Alert Risk Warning Light
The Citroën C3 Aircross collision risk alert warning light flashes due to a possible impending collision. The system activates and brakes the vehicle momentarily so as to reduce the speed of collision with the vehicle ahead. The warning light may come on (fixed) along with a message and audible signal.
Tyre Pressure Warning Light
The Citroën C3 Aircross tyre pressure warning light comes on accompanied by an audible signal and a message to indicate the pressure in one or more tyres is too low. Check the pressure of the tyres as soon as possible.
Resetting the Tyre Pressure System
After adjusting tyre pressures, the Citroën C3 Aircross tyre pressure monitoring system must be reset. To do this, press and hold the tyre pressure reset button down . Reinitialisation / reset is confirmed by a high-pitched audible signal. A low-pitched audible signal indicates that the reset operation has not been successful. Using the touch screen method:
- In the menu Driving / Vehicle , select the tab “Driving functions“.
- Then select “Reset under-inflation detection“.
- Select “Yes” to confirm. The tyre pressure reset is confirmed by the display of a message and an audible signal.
Tyre Pressure + Service Warning Spanner Light
If the tyre under-inflation warning light is flashing and the service warning spanner light together indicates the tyre pressure monitoring system is faulty. Under-inflation detection is no longer monitored. Have the system checked as soon as possible.
DSC / ASR Warning Light
DSC means ‘Dynamic Stability Control’ and ASR means ‘Anti-Slip Regulation’. This system forms the Citroën C3 Aircross stability systems. If this warning light flashes, it means the system is operating in an attempt to stabilise the vehicle. If it remains constantly lit, it means there’s a fault. DSC / ASR faults often arise due to a faulty wheel speed sensor.
Airbag Warning Light
If your Citroën C3 Aircross airbag warning light remains permanently lit, it means one of the airbags or seat belt pyrotechnic pretensioners is faulty. Have the vehicle serviced as soon as possible.
DPF Warning Light
DPF stands for ‘Diesel Particulate Filter’. The DPF is designed to help trap harmful diesel particulate emissions. The filter is usually cleaned automatically, but on occasions (particularly if you mainly take short journeys) it may require driver intervention. If the Citroën C3 Aircross DPF warning light comes on, regenerate the filter by driving at a speed of at least 37 mph (60 km/h) until the warning lamp goes off. This warning light may also come on signalling that the additive level in the particle filter is too low. The minimum level of the additive tank is reached. Quickly have the tank topped up by contacting your local Citroën dealership.
Low Fuel Warning Light
When the low fuel amber warning light first comes on, there remains approximately 5 litres of fuel in the tank.
Water in Diesel Filter Warning Light
This warning light comes on when the fuel diesel water filter is full and requires draining. Contact your Citroën workshop to have the filter drained.
Lane Departure Warning Light
The lane departure system warning light remains illuminated along with a fault message when the system has malfunctioned. This may be due to the camera located at the top-centre of the windshield is covered by dirt or snow. Cleaning the windshield may resolve the issue.
AdBlue Warning Light
AdBlue is a diesel exhaust fluid that’s used to reduce the amount of air pollution created by a diesel engines. If the fluid runs out, the engine will no longer start. The warning light illuminates along with a message indicating the remaining vehicle range. If the light flashes, there’s less than 62 miles (100 km).
SCR Emissions Control System Warning Light
The AdBlue, service spanner and check engine warning light illuminate together along with an audible sound and warning message when a fault with the SCR emissions control system
has been detected. This alert disappears once the exhaust emissions return to normal levels.
Service Warning Spanner and Engine Service Light
The service spanner warning light and engine maintenance service spanner light both illuminate together means the servicing interval has been exceeded. The vehicle must be serviced as soon as possible.
Diesel Preheat (Glow Plug) Warning Light
This is the diesel preheating system light on diesel versions of the Citroën C3 Aircross. Wait until the light goes off before attempting to start the engine. In cold weather, the light may remain on for up to 30 seconds.
Start Stop Warning Light
This light comes on when the Citroën C3 Aircross automatic engine start stop system has stopped the engine. The light flashes temporarily when stop mode is momentarily unavailable or when start mode is automatically triggered.
Have a week old Citroen C3 Aircross which had oil pressure light and STOP and audible warnings also loss of power. Citroen Assist (RAC) could not find any fault. Robins & Day could not find any fault !
Did they test the actual oil pressure? Could be a sensor fault if the pressure is fine.
I have had this citreon c3 aircross for 1 year the dasbouud light has come on about 10 times with different fault lights ,Citreon dont seem to know and do not repair it when it goes back into citreon to get fixed it only last about 8 week then another light comes, so i am not getting anywhere Citreoen do not answer my calls
Hi Ken,
I’m assuming your Citroen is under warranty, either manufacturer or dealer?
I would try to get some sort of evidence of your problem. Sounds like some electrical issues. If driving, get a passenger to take a video or picture of the warning lights, or if it’s just yourself, pull off the road.
Write to your dealer by use of their formal complaints procedure explaining the faults you’re experiencing and keep a copy of all documents sent and received.
If under the warranty they are obliged to fix your vehicle, then you’ll need to inform them that you’ll intend to escalate the issue until the fault/s are rectified. Ignoring your calls is not acceptable. Ultimately you have The Motor Ombudsman if you get nowhere.
I have a c3 aircross it’s been back to the service department twice for squeaky brakes now it’s gone with a DSC /Asr fault I have only had it for three weeks
Citroen aircross 2020a water pump overheated causing engine damage but no warning signals appeared on the dash until message to turn engine off and it was too late. Garage says water pump had multiple failures but I know for sure no lights have come on indicating or temp gauge looking serious. Is this common or a fault with the engine mgt system ?
The oil pressure light came on when i started my c3 air cross, turned the engine off and then restarted, the warning light disappeared and has not come back on. The oil level is spot on.
Is this likely to be a dodgy sensor? Otherwise wouldn’t the oil pressure light be on every time the engine was started?
Hi Keith,
When was your engine last serviced with oil change and filters?
If it’s just a one-off incident then I wouldn’t worry about it.
If the oil pressure light comes on again, then it’s not something you want to mess about with. You can be looking at serious engine damage.
As you say, check the oil level and that the correct oil type is used for your engine. Ensure engine is serviced with clean filters.
You’ll then need to test the oil pressure. You can purchase a pressure gauge yourself or pay an engineer.
As you say, it can also be a sensor, which would be something to look at if the oil pressure is fine.
Thanks for the reply.
So far just a one off incident, planning to get it serviced in April anyway, unless the warning light returns then i will take it in straight away.
Thanks for your advice.
Sounds like a good plan.
